values ~ play
Feb. 9th, 2025 06:30 pmplay is important , in all forms . that could look like splatter down paint and stamp random letters . or maybe make beach side potion in bucket . games of pretend and characters , with as little or as much sophistication and rules as want . even just stories inside head is play .
there is wonder and awe everywhere , but sometimes lose sight of that because society have specific lines to follow . everyone need to spend time with happiness , wonder , creativity , curiosity . absolutely everyone .
play is not always only happy feelings , of course . sometimes play come from sad or angry feelings , or bring those feelings out . sometimes need to play as fairy whose wings cut off , or as tragic hero struggle against expectations , or really anything .
but that is just as good and important as happy play - always better to let feelings feel than to try and contain .
character games can be really good , in all cases . sometimes will learn how to handle situations from characters , give motivation and strength . sometimes characters make world feel new and beautiful all over again , like alien who just crash land here . and sometimes , just fun relief to step away from self - classes and jobs do not matter to pet dogs .
and play is not just games - play is also arts . sometimes there is character in arts , sometimes not , but just as important to feelings . some art will be happy , some will be sad , or any number of other feelings . sometimes art is not so much feeling in self , but to hold or to finish bring just as much pride and awe .
and why stick to rules and logic ? world is strange enough , sometimes nonsensical things might as well happen - and in fact , some do , whether truly rare or just elsewhere in world .
think also very important to not just play in always same ways , if possible . some ways might feel awkward , if not done since childhood - like backyard potion buckets , or pretend as if everything is unfamiliar , fun and new . but , even if totally private , maybe should just ... try , one more time .
video games and tabletop games can be wonderful , but there is still limits , rules , and some form of expectation in these . even most open of open world games can not allow for every creative possibility , and sometimes that can sour happiness .
