Oct. 29th, 2024 05:38 pmkossai grow up pagan , and did not directly learn anything in depth about christianity of any kind - or more broadly , really any other specific religion . not to say that did not learn certain attitudes , about christian holidays , or generally escape all cultural notions - but never learn much about bible , let alone how people interpret and live by those words , or traditions any more in depth than " fun day where there is no school " .
... and feel like , for where kossai live , this is kind of unique position - one which do not want to so easily give up . in some part , would like to know more , see if this help to understand where certain types of cruel people go wrong , but also ... kind of do not want to , or at least not to start there .
what to do with position like this ? go in depth to learn about another major religion instead , maybe ?

Date: Oct. 30th, 2024 01:07 am (UTC)it's perhaps worth noting that christians, and especially the hateful ones, don't typically understand the bible either. the bible is an argument from authority where they made up the authority; what it actually says is irrelevant as long as you memorize which sentences validate your pre-existing beliefs. hell, the variant most often held up by theofascists, the king james version, was a monarch rewriting the text so it contained the quotes he wanted to justify the behavior he wanted to engage in!
so in sum: don't read the bible to understand theofascists. they don't understand it, either.

Some church systems are also full of corruption and abuse that is never addressed because it gets covered up. Most times, the victims of abuse are even blamed for causing their abuse. It's horrible.
