well , thoughts again .
never like in media when all of good nature people have these kind of rules . also think kind of silly that this seem apparently very strict through all valenwood , and not variable as in not only religions out here , but also other in universe religions .

so . green pact . some bosmer communities very strict with this - believe that any harvest or harm to plants is bad , and will be punish . even if fellow bosmer lay near death , and this herb could save - no , let that person die . only some naturally fallen plant foods , all animal products otherwise . or people products , if so necessary . ( maybe that is why so many bosmer live in shivering isles - prion diseases . )

but really ... look , even with magical forest shape powers from god , not everything will be perfect . especially not if hunt and eat only animals - easy to over-hunt if this is only food source , and then what ? plus animals help to control growths , spread seeds , and help keep things in balance .
without control , plants can overtake and kill each other , and fires will be extremely deadly to all life . sometimes plants and trees also get sick , and only way to prevent spread is to cull part or whole . so on and so forth , at some point forest magic can only do so much ! and also just kind of not very fun explanation , which feel take away power from bosmer .

ESO lore books explain , oh some bosmer did try to reject , and lose , and now in eternal ooze punishment . but like ... silly . understand why this would put conflict between communities , but again . overprotection is harm .
and really , really agree with those who point out hypocrisy that bosmer apparently let others waltz in to harvest from valenwood , and then bosmer actually serve as customers !

no . again - some communities . but think make sense much better for terms and followers of this pact to have variance .
some communities will only harvest if necessary for life - especially that of plant , but also fellow mer or livestock . to allow for backburns where lands need , to cut and cull sick forest life . still very important to use everything possible , and to return into nirn what is not , but not punish just to harvest .
others might not have rules on when to harvest , but still mindful - leave some for animals , and do not exhaust plants , as plants work hard . likewise with trees - do not be careless , but do not fear and oppose all change either . part of forests is change , forests live and breathe and die just as people do .

and so on and so such , for every rule there is degrees of variance and strictness . think much more interest and sensical to have variance .

I find this idea around forbidding the harvest of all plants to be very much a product of white supremacy. Both in the sense of "pristine unaltered wilderness" as the "true state of nature" and the sense of like. The idea that all human harvest or interaction with ecosystems is inherently destructive and harmful. As if humans are not also animals who make use of things in their environment, just at very different capacities and scales (it is those scales that require mindful management). As if the only way humans could harvest is through clear cut extractive extirpation. C'mon. Indigenous practices are Right There.

Also the idea of plants as inherently peaceful. Cuz like. If they knew the sheer amount of active chemical warfare going on in those suckers. Plants are also actively fighting for their lives and resources, just in ways that aren't apparent to us.
