kossaithis is easily most self indulgent part of thaliendir , in all honesty , but stick around and hear out . :P
so , sheogorath say in shivering isles DLC directly that never try out whole mantle plan before . but have to imagine , that would need sort of special bond , right ? to entrust selfhood with another person , allow that person to walk in shoes for ... well , forever . can not trust just anyone with that - have to find someone suitable , know this person will follow plans , know this person understand gravity …
thali always have problems with divines , and become more sympathetic to daedric princes . especially as artist and madman , would already have connection with sheogorath . so when that door in niben bay call out ... of course thali did not resist . to be champion of any sort was truest honour ... but to actually be around sheogorath , truly meet and feel that odd sense of pride and love , because of madness rather than in spite ? thali was head over heels .
and of course sheogorath know this ! how funny , really - this silly little mortal champion is in love with madness ! could not help but play around , sometimes , just tease and have laugh . but then ... well , fuck . sheogorath want to protect .
and as sheogorath become more coherent , more jyggalag ... try so very hard to force self into indulgence with thali , even though feel emptier and emptier ... jyggalag , after all , surely understand true order , how mortals can not love daedra and daedra can not love mortals . one of last things sheogorath did for thali was tuck lavender into hair , which thali would keep until jyggalag finally destroy .
at start to symbols of office , when sheogorath realise jyggalag is inevitable , actually want for thali to leave , to save self - can not bear thought that would come back to senses and realise thali of all people is dead .
and genuinely ? that is not even stretch from canon . sheogorath is ready to throw out whole plan , allow jyggalag to take over once again without fight , if that means champion will get out safely .
but thali refuse to give up , as did haskill - not only take throne and fight jyggalag , but win . and as thali become newest face of sheogorath ... old sheo is so , so happy to reunite .
of course , thaliendir did take quite some time to fully accept position and shed mortality - 100 years , just about . so from there , sheo help out through troubles of main quest - can not have mad world if there is no world - and explorations there after .
eventually , would go through sheogorathean self marriage . honestly like to think would not be first one ! just by circumstance , 3rd era sheo never did this .
twofold for thaliendir : to represent internal relationship , but also to throw middle finger at mara , because still hold grudge . sure , would never go attack , but can at least laugh in face of domain .
