Dec. 1st, 2024 11:01 amcruel to insist that weird religious experience , or even any religious experience period , is delusion and psychosis . this do force religion on others - whether want to see that way or not , and yes even if that religion is atheism - and no one have right to that .
in situations outside personal life and personal identity of given religious person , yes , there can be reason to say " not here " or " this is scam " - such as prayers for someone who did not ask , use of personal visions as proof of something universal , or anyone who sell for example crystals to heal cancer .
delusion is not always big bad and harmful . still , delusion and psychosis run deeper than just " weird experience " . will not help anyone to water down meaning of these words , least of all people with delusions and psychosis who need community that understand .
religious experiences can develop mental health problems , especially as certain sects , groups , and cults try to push worst of worst behaviours . but , this is not inherent to all religion .
regardless of what red flags that someone seem to present , there will never be any good from insist on personal experiences as delusion . this will only ever frustrate and distress people ! imagine from more familiar perspective : would someone who did not attend high school have right to argue , " high school is not real , that was just one long dream " ?
can never fully understand internal experiences of anyone else . should not demand for external proof to decide whether or not give kindness and respect - do not need to personally validate worldview of everyone else for that .
respect for religious people and people with delusions alike means to not conflate , to not point at one and insist other . if someone describe personal experience as religious , respect that . if another person describe similar personal experience as delusion , respect that .
