kossaiduring main quest to help martin save cyrodiil , one instruction in mysterium xarxes require some kind of daedric artifact .
of course as literal sheogorath by this point , thaliendir would already have some . wabbajack , azura's star , and plenty artifacts straight from shivering isles - but nothing that want to give up and destroy .
so would put out feelers , spend some time to learn about other princes and princely artifacts . vaermina's , nocturnal's , and sanguine's all seem like too much fun to destroy - and thaliendir would later retrieve each of these for personal use .
but malacath's volendrung ? well , thaliendir already have powerful weapon in shadowrend - volendrung is seriously weaker , slower , just slightly worse overall !
sheogorath and malacath already have bones to pick with each other - but thaliendir is still very fresh in this position , functionally just another mortal when in cyrodiil . in other words , this could be hilarious .
so , thaliendir approach malacath for quest , with only truest of heart ... pfffyeah right . of course thaliendir did carry through quest , and was happy to see cruelty beget consequence - but volendrung did not stay in hands for long . with buzz of excitement , thaliendir would travel back to cloud ruler temple , and happily hand over this useless little trinket to martin , who would then destroy in accordance with mysterium xarxes .
no coincidence that ogres start to chase down thaliendir not long after this . can only imagine that look on malacath's face ... :D
