would anyone happen to know if very short term experience - like , hours - still fall under name of psychosis ? this is something where kossai is unsure , and searches do not seem to recognise . do not like to speak much of these experiences as feel very personal and vulnerable , but in short -
ever since near death trauma , kossai occasionally experience these episodes . certain triggers usually precede these , so sometimes able to avoid . these episodes can include minor hallucinations , delusions , lack of clarity in thought and language , and sort of disconnect between feelings and reality . these episodes can sometimes be intense and bring up certain risks , but not necessarily - and again , these last for only hours , just start to gradually fade away until back at baseline .
kossai do not classify anything else in life under these frameworks - just not feel accurate or helpful . if anything , these short term experiences demonstrate to kossai just how different everyday life is . just happen to grow up pagan - things which others often consider to be out of question religiously and spiritually just natural conclusion for kossai .
in any case , not worry if experience " valid " or not - obviously valid and able to happen , because this is what kossai experience . rather , curious what words might help to best discuss experience . even something like short term psychosis feel not quite accurate - this is something which can trigger and recur , but also only last for hours , not days or weeks .
appreciate any input :)
in answer to post about diagnostic term BLIPS - brief/limited intermittent psychotic symptoms :
hmm ! yeah , feeling-reality disconnect is probably hardest part to explain ... say for example , laugh at things that really should not be funny at all , or just feel nothing about something that would usually feel intense . did also at one point have internal conversation with auditory hallucination , but gradually get less and less answer , and realise this person was not real after all . was actually kind of sad about that !
so again , not necessarily at risk or total distress during these episodes - some aspects can be calm , or even comfort . but when things do get bad , can get pretty bad - where lifelong clinical zoanthropes and folks with cotards might find comfort and peace in embrace as core identity , feel this would increase risk for kossai , if that make sense .
but yes - no specific triggers to fade , whether internal or external , and reality check is useless . will just gradually return over course of episode , with brief period where realities seem to overlap - sort of double book-keep by that point , and shortly after this any delusion will fade . emotional effect tend to last longest , then lack of clarity in thought and language - clang is usually one of more common effects in that regard . would say average length is probably 3 to 8 hours , from first effects to very last - so far never have any episode which persist after overnight sleep .
( separately have experience with delirium from low oxygen , which did feel similar to these episodes , but obviously persist until oxygen restabilise . this is also why kossai encourage folks to remember - for everyone in general - that physical aspects can also influence brain function , and not to brush off definitely new changes . )
BLIPS is ... fun name alright ! and certainly feel like blip when these happen , heh . again , usually specific triggers , so some avoidance is possible - and can always identify when about to happen , but not stop , only try to mitigate some of worst effects .
really appreciate thoughts :D

Date: Mar. 24th, 2025 03:49 am (UTC)Heck, my own "living in a very different version of reality with complete conviction for a few hours" experiences have been called psychosis by both a therapist and psychotic friends, if that's any help. There hasn't been a need to get any more specific than that.
I guess that raises the question of who you're discussing with. The words you'd use with a doctor are different from friends are different from strangers. How specific do you need to be, really?

Date: Mar. 24th, 2025 04:04 am (UTC)mostly wonder and post on tumblr initially because have fair amount of followers there with lifelong psychosis and schizo-spectrum experiences , so differentiation can be useful . there is stuff in common which is why psychosis is useful to say , but then duration and whether or not lifelong really change other things .
sort of that note about lifelong clinical zoanthropes and folks with cotards - might be safer for those folks to embrace animality or undeadness as core identity , but not so much for kossai where experiences can be very short and very stressful , if that make sense . some other folks out there use similarly stressful short term experiences to try and hammer down against autonomy of folks with lifelong experiences , unfortunately , and can not stand that - so like to clarify .
