usually when new age soundtrack-type artists name tracks as things like japanese garden can expect to hear like , koto and shamisen , maybe some little shouts , but all still very western musical style .
these things can sound nice too , but very much different from actual historical japanese music , and even from modern-historical fusions by japanese artists . opinion of whether or not these bad to exist at all will depend person by person and also case by case , but if nothing else , think should at least acknowledge this gap of difference and not try to present as equal accuracy . ( which unfortunately some artists do fall into that . )
but just recently ... come across someone who did not even give that much effort . japanese garden track , with only barest imitation of japanese instruments , certainly no japanese style . congratulations sir , this might just be worst attempt - still pretty , but there is nothing japanese about this garden !
anyway , on relate note . this concern " desert level " style of music specifically , but would really recommend this video by farya faraji :

bulk of kossai experience of this is definitely with " celtic style " music , especially " welsh " ... have soft spot for these styles , but so very often names and keywords just inaccurate , aesthetics more than anything else . but , at least there is more effort towards accuracy in media than what farya describe with middle eastern cultures .
would say probably also help - as much as this is for terrible historical reasons - that many modern celtic peoples speak english among majority english societies , or otherwise local majority language . unfortunately seem like many people more willing to care about accuracy and care of depiction , if those subjects able to personally show up and challenge in significant number . ( and for sure whiteness / perception as white culture also play factor , even if no one will say that part out loud . )
