personal vs other play

sort of wonder why feel so different to play game personally rather than watch someone else play . like bar character personalisation or first person perspectives - even something like yume nikki feel different to play than to watch someone else play . but fundamentally still watch same graphics through same screen with same music and sounds - not actually physically present in area , but personal play feel as if there , in ways videos do not .

is personal control over character really main factor in that , to personally press keys and buttons that make journey ? or is this whole opinion weird to start with ...

Nah, that's not a weird opinion, the interactivity of games is a pretty major part of the experience and the importance of player interaction as feature is kind of a cornerstone to games media analysis (even when the interaction is very far from standard video game practice - see the arguments over the advent of "walking simulators")
