kossaiso new tumblr update is functionally worse version of what cohost did : notes of every new reblog chain with direct post body will now go towards creator of that branch , and not OP . as result , post branches will no longer be visible to one another , and yes , if someone popular make addition , that person will gain all of metrics and completely throw off ability to track post flow .
cohost was , at least , much smaller website which de-emphasise numbers to begin with . worst part of this functionality , and something which notice tumblr users in particular complain about , was lack of ability to see into other reblog and comment branches - could sometimes be very finicky to find one exact version again , based on whoever's branch that version come from .
but at least for most part that was just inconvenience - post flow was less necessary to track , as there was no community of TERFs or neo-nazis happy to spread around for less kind reasons , or even just under assumption that no one will notice . but there sure is on tumblr , and popular blogs can not feasibly moderate all of interactions . at least if these things come through OP's notifications as well , then either person can inform each other . if these things do not get seen by OP at all , then there is no way for OP to know , and may get lost in sea of popular blog's many other notifications , unless popular blogs choose to no longer say anything - whether joke , share knowledge , or correct misinformation .
and even just from look at how this show up on other blogs , this make no fucking sense - many posts in entire reblog chains have " 0 notes " . is this broken already ? tumblr , is this broken already ? tumblr be honest , this is fucking broken already .
