contradictory yaku in aotenjo
Aug. 6th, 2024 09:25 amwell , so . in standard mahjong rummy ( or as kossai know by japanese name , riichi ) , need 4 sets and 1 pair , or , 7 pairs . this game in specific invalidate 7 pairs , so that leave with 4 sets and 1 pair .
yaku just is , set of win conditions . each yaku give different score , with some very complex or very lucky ones give huge scores . for this example , will tell about all simples and no honours .
all simples : player use only tiles 2 to 8 of any suit , without any 1 , 9 , dragons , or winds .
no honours : player only use tiles 1 to 9 of any suit , without any dragons or winds . ( not necessarily part of standard riichi games . )
in aotenjo , player need to make mini hands of 5 , 4 times . in these hands , will make 1 set and 1 pair . of course this would come out to too many tiles in full hand , so here is fun part : each new pair will replace old pair .
so , player could play 234 set , and 44 pair . this fall in rules of all simples .
player could then play 555 set , and 99 pair . well , this is no longer all simples , but this is still no honours .
next , player could play 567 set , and 33 pair . because 33 replace previous 99 , and 33 fall within rules of all simples , this hand is now all simples again .
see ? fun , contradictory stuff can happen ! :)
can also add more fun and points if these tiles all fall within same suit , or only two of three suits .
this game can get very complex and very fun , kossai really just know basics !
