various character flaw suggestions in changeling certainly do display ... 90s-ness .
disabilities and facial or body differences make show as flaws , and members of sidhe house dougal must choose one . word choices can certainly alienate : mute , lame , disfigured - and very fact that game categorise these as flaws .
feel like ultimately this design choice encourage creation of disabled character not for sake of represent - especially to represent self - but to earn back freebie points for use on cool traits .
know this is not really exclusive to changeling , or world of darkness in general , but just . bah .
in some ways , yes this is better than not allow opportunity at all , better than shoot down idea that disabled characters even could exist in these places . in other ways , these words and frames do hurt - and encourage world to continue see people as broken , rather than confront cruel realities of systems which serve to break , that each person must have something extremely worthy to contribute despite flaw .

Date: Sep. 28th, 2024 02:30 am (UTC)That is one of the major issues I have with most of the "big publisher" RPGs - they either entirely ignore the existence of... well, honestly, pretty much all marginalized groups (but especially those with disabilities, because "why would anybody want to play that") or they treat it as something you as a player either should get bonuses for "having to deal with" or only receive as a punishment.
Core concept for solo games: you are your own audience, and the game as you play it exists for nobody other than you. You are entirely free to disregard rules you find boring, unpleasant, or (especially) bigoted. Nobody else exists to argue against it, after all.

Date: Sep. 28th, 2024 02:49 am (UTC)like fae farm give aspen , carpenter in wheelchair - but none of town is accessible . everything is up or down some staircase , or maybe across stony bridge , but even then will eventually hit staircases .
merchants do not move around town , but even if did , aspen would literally be stuck . there is no mention of how aspen live or adapt carpentry methods , especially for builds like houses !
so like sure there is this visual representation , but there is nothing deeper to see , nothing for player in wheelchair to actually relate or aspire to .
and , yes !!! not try dive too deep into homebrew before even really play out story with base game but , hopefully might put together custom kith and see how that play , to better represent some of truths . 💚
