environmental preservation in games

this is probably , too much commitment of detail to ask from most games - and hard to balance with other systems - but . wish could have incentive to better preserve things in environment and not over harvest ?
that is , not make everything so easily infinite . yes need to wait for things respawn , but would love to have reason to not just pick everything , rather than feel like waste good material because of make choice to not .
not necessarily that things will never show up again as if extinct , but that maybe next week will see less if harvest all - or , will see more if leave some there !
think about this in specific because of fae farm , but also come up through oblivion and skyrim , and sometimes stardew valley .
just think shame that games sort of encourage this " take everything " approach - even , say , elder scrolls games where have people like bosmer with green pact . ( that is whole other rant . )
can choose to play these things mindfully , but all that can really do is hinder experience . which seem especially unfit for games about love and care for world .
not think need perfect ecosystem simulation , of course there is balance to find to make something that interest without overly frustrate . but would be nice if could see that total depletion have some kind of effect , and mindfulness as well - give reason to pace goals and take things slower .
