so in short , kossai try for 1.5 hours to crochet , but everything just turn out so , so wrong . spend another 1.5 hours on mope , because sometimes , what need is to cry .
then switch out , and , well ...

photo of short green crochet chain

undo everything from before , and work this up in 20 minutes . not that that was easy 20 minutes - and no , not have right size needle to properly weave ends right now , so just have small security knots . but that 20 minutes would not be possible without 3 hours before - both try , and cry .

really do love to try out new crafts , new things in general . was very upset that this seem to go so wrong - not that kossai expect to be perfect first shot , but did at least want to make something more than mistakes . this is obviously not special thing in grand scheme - but is to kossai , and think good to celebrate that .

would like to make bigger swatch too , just , hurt too much for right now , and really happy just with this .

crocheting is HARD, especially if you've never done it before

i've crocheted swatches, frogged them, crocheted them again, etc many times before i even began to understand what i was doing, much less develop the muscle memory for it

you did great and you deserve the happiness that comes with that

oh yeah for sure!! i often wonder what the first person to discover/create a thing thought when they did so

crochet takes a LOT of patience and perseverance, especially on big projects like blankets or sweaters. granny squares are a good place to start if a blanket is a long-term goal of yours, since you can stitch granny squares together to make one :3

Well ...

>> for sure , for sure . feel like wonder that people even figure out to start with ! who was first person , and how did that person not give up ? hehe . <<

Almost certainly crochet, and other crafts that make string into stuff, was some combination of a fidgeter, high kinesthetic intelligence, and/or high visual-spatial intelligence -- with a slimmer possibility of throwing in high logical-mathematical intelligence. Many, many children reinvent the first step of crochet with their fingers. The crucial steps from there are figuring out how to make it a plane instead of a line, realizing that a tool would make this easier, and then that a hooked stick would work better than a straight one.

The history of fibercrafts is interesting.

Fully had not thought about how failed and unwound rows are still practice. The frustration is the least fun part of learning fibercrafts (or many other hobbies) but I'm glad you were able to make the progress back so quickly.

Mmhm! It's part of the process, and it's also necessary.

Hey, that's pretty good! I went through the same thing trying to make my purple heart pillow. Only difference is, I gave up on the crochet pattern and switched over to a knitting pattern. Jumbo weight yarn is already tough to work with, you know? 💀

After I finish my current project, I might try crochet again with easier yarn, though. I wish you luck on your current project :3

Hey, congrats! Well done on what you've got. Little bits at a time go a long way.

I struggled a lot first trying crochet too (and I actually gave up after the first go, then came back to it months later), but that struggle did make it possible the second time. And now it's one of my favorite destressing hobbies. If you ever want to talk crochet, my inbox is open!

Go you!

Congratulations on persisting!

Some thoughts ...

* Crochet is easily messed up by not having the right tools, and makes you think it's you but it's not. There are different shapes as well as sizes of crochet hook, which influence how they hold the yarn.

* Crochet is also easily messed up with the process, like instructions that don't suit you, or using the wrong hook grip or yarn grip or hand. You might try switching hands, holding things a different way, or using different instructions. If you're a visual person, try a video; if you're a text person, use print.

* Yarn can be a issue. The picture looks like typical acrylic yarn but some people find that slippery. If so, cotton is less slippery.

* Crochet can be so small it's hard to see what you're doing. If this is an issue for you, try doing it with your fingers until you feel comfortable with the geometry of it. Thicker yarn or cord (like cotton craft cord) can also help you see what you're doing.

* Some people do both crochet and knitting, while others can only do one and the other makes absolutely no sense to them. So try knitting.

I never did get the hang of crochet or knitting myself, but I'm familiar enough for basic</i troubleshooting.
