yesterday sort of :
how media in general handle topics of madness and
insane characters is ... well , in general to put very lightly ,
poor . still , there can be some nuggets of good to find - think biggest problems come when media do not ask audience to find .
take glarthir : paranoid wood elf man , who believe 3 fellow townsfolk of skingrad mean harm , and that everyone watch . and ... in some part , glarthir is not wrong - people do watch , and talk behind back at that , and captain of guard seem to itch for some excuse to lock glarthir away . people already outcast glarthir long ago , but then just never stop , and that tank what was already poor mental health .
but game is less concern with this than really would like , and instead , only way to finish quest is for at least one person to die . either kill one of people from glarthir's list , or refuse all and glarthir will die . and that is ... well , sad really . kossai will never see this quest complete within game , just have to keep new story in mind .
but that potential thread
is there , even if no one on staff then really explore . and do sort of fear that ... quests and characters like this would more likely face removal , than any kind of mindful and respectful adaptation . and think that is loss overall .
this is what find so hard about stereotypes , and especially ones about what
insanity is . stereotypes can do so much damage , but then , people do not want to give enough time of day to rectify that . easier to just brush off , or to remove from setting entirely .
and just ... fuck . what is even better ? stereotypes which at least prove these people
exist in this world and give threads to follow into better stories , or nothing at all ? really both hurt , just in different ways !
this is realistically one of those personal discretion answers , huh . kossai like that these characters exist , between both main game and shivering isles , because there is potential to explore and to change things . but also think fair for people to hate and wish gone ,
because of how hurtful some can get - and especially that audience do not often have reason to question or humanise .
